Beagles

Leaving work I happened across this car full of beagles. The owner (not pictured, shockingly) was kind enough to let me do a quick portrait session while they waited for his wife to arrive.

yay doggies! (I have no idea how I would react if someone randomly came up to my car and asked to take pictures of my dogs though.)

I'm always surprised how many people don't mind having their picture taken. Honestly, I think I feel weird doing it more often than the people feel weird about being the subject.

Given my encounters with people, I definitely would prefer to have someone ask to take Molly's picture rather than yell at her from traffic jam on the freeway that she is ugly. Also, I meant to add that I think it is awesome that you ask.

Is the choice really between asking politely and shouting that your dog is ugly? I could've sworn there was a middle ground there somewhere... :)

In general I try to ask if it's reasonable to do so. It's not always. In this particular case I shot the second photo before I got to the car, so naturally I didn't ask first. But then I asked when I got closer.

I actually got into a discussion about this on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/breischl?v=wall&story_fbid=115365391811065&ref=mf

Hah, I just started dating again. I will let you know if I ever find this middle ground you speak of. Thanks for the discussion link. I forget that most people comment over there. :)

So there's a threshhold to dog civility, ay? Certain feet away... no need to ask? Funny, last year, I was traveling and stopped for pics along the Columbia River Gorge in OR (Multnomah Falls). Saw what was the spittin' image of the Bush's Beans labrador...didn't ask permission to take his pic, because, after all it's a DOG, but the owners were so exited by my enthusiam, they didn't care anyway (and were flattered I was sending it back to family back east as a travelogued). It's all in how you package it :-)

Love these pix and the expression on the second one..."hey, don't leave."
