From the children's area of the Piazza del Arte festival. I bet her parents are still finding chalk marks on their car seats.

Chalk One Up for Art

Last weekend was the Larimer Square Piazza del'Arte. That sounds pretty uppity though - I prefer to call it the Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival, although that a misnomer since it's neither on the sidewalk nor confined to just chalk.

It's amazing what these artists can do on such a rough canvas as Larimer Street. At least put downon a base layer of water-soluble paint to give a better background. Other just put down huge amounts of chalk.

It's really a great show and free to boot. If you live in the area, you should definitely check it out. I've gone for the last three years in a row and haven't been disappointed yet. In fact, I'll even close with a few photos from last year's show.

Outside Vegas

Most visitors to Vegas never see anything outside of the Strip or downtown. But the area around Las Vegas is well worth visiting as well, and not very far away either. On our last trip there we took a couple trips out to Red Rocks Canyon Park. No relation to the park in Denver, but it is just about the same distance from downtown.

There was a good amount of rain on the deserts near Las Vegas during the winter, so the wildflowers made a strong showing. Or at least so I'm told -- I've never seen it before. It seemed like a lot of flowers for a desert though.

So if you find yourself in Vegas completely bored with nothing at all to do, or, more likely, just cannot drink and gamble any more, head out to Red Rocks and take a look around.

Black & White Mountain

We took a quick hike up Green Mountain yesterday. But apparently I'm not in a very colorful mood, so it's not very Green.

Lipgloss

I was fortunate enough to be involved in Christian's photo shoot last Saturday. I'm still working through my shots from it - I hope to have them out within the next week. I also saw some of Christian's shots, and I can say for sure that he'll have some great shots once he's done with post-processing.

In the meantime, here's a small "taste" of things to come.

I Heart Targus

Back in 2003 I bought a Targus laptop backpack to go with a new laptop. It turned out to be an excellent all-purpose backpack, so I've used it a lot over the years. In fact, it's seen almost daily use since then toting clothes, books, cameras and occasionally even a laptop. For a while I was routinely carrying over 40 pounds in it to work and back. That backpack was a real workhorse. It actually outlasted the laptop I bought it for, and handled the 17" replacement laptop quite handily.

A few weeks ago it finally had it's first failure. One of the stitches holding the strap buckle failed. My old friend was rendered a one-strap only backpack, a sort of awkward messenger bag.

After searching in vain for a local repair shop I discovered that Targus offers a lifetime warranty on their bags. So I mailed my faithful backpack off to them. Just today I received a shiny new replacement, even better than the original. The customer service along the way was exemplary -- they never gave me a minute's trouble and even notified me when they received my bag in the mail and sent a new one.

So here's to you, Targus. You rock!
